Salam al Maseeh

The first Palestinian above all others is Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Let be accursed any gospel other than that which was preached at the beginning, received not from man but from Christ Jesus, thou alone, in whom we have redemption through thy all holy infinitely pure and undefiled blood, the remission of our sins, who in the future shall recreate the heavens and the earth, called by thine special choice, who before hoped in Christ with all who heard the word of truth and believed, sealed with the Holy Spirit of the promise, who is the pledge of our inheritance, to the redemption of the possession, for the praise of his glory, in faith in the Lord Jesus, and of love for all the saints in unceasing intercession of all the elect angels and saints of God, virgins, with all thanksgiving, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in deep knowledge of him; the eyes of our minds being enlightened, to know the hope of his calling, the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and the exceeding greatness of his power towards us who believe, according to the working of his mighty power wrought in Christ the only first born from the dead in the flesh raised above all things he made subject under his feet, we who hold him the head directly and no other, Christ Jesus our only Lord and Saviour immortal son of the immortal Father in the unity and power and bond of love of the immortal Holy Spirit our Paraclete unto the ages of the ages. Amen.

The Final Trial: Jesus Christ begotten of the Father - not made

A prayer of Isaias the Prophet.

Is. 26: 9-21

(Isaias' prophecy, which is also his prayer.)

O Lord our God, grant us peace. Out of the night my spirit waketh at dawn unto Thee, O God; for Thy commandments are a light upon the earth. Learn righteousness, all ye that dwell upon the earth. For the ungodly man hath come to an end; every one that learneth not righteousness upon the earth shall not be able to do truth; let the ungodly be taken away, that he may not see the glory of the Lord. O Lord, Thine arm is lifted up, and they knew it not; but when they know it, let them be put to shame. Zeal shall lay hold upon an untaught people, and now fire shall devour the adversaries. O Lord our God, bestow Thy peace upon us, for Thou hast given all things unto us. O Lord our God, take us for Thy possession. O Lord, we know no other beside Thee; we call upon Thy name. But the dead shall not see life, neither shall physicians raise them up; therefore hast Thou brought wrath upon them, and hast slain them, and hast taken every man of them away. Bring more evils upon them, Lord; bring more evils upon them that are glorious upon the earth. O Lord, in trouble we remembered Thee; with small affliction was Thy chastening with us. And as a woman in travail draweth nigh to be delivered, and crieth out in her travail, so have we become in the presence of Thy beloved. We have conceived, O Lord, because of Thy fear, and have suffered pangs, and have brought forth the spirit of Thy salvation, which we have wrought upon the earth. We shall not fail, but all those that dwell upon the earth shall fail. The dead shall arise, and they that are in the tomb shall awake, and they that are upon the earth shall rejoice. For the dew which Thou sendest is healing unto them; but the land of the ungodly shall perish. Go, my people, enter into thine inner chamber, shut thy door, hide thyself for a little season [during the Great Tribulation, hidden in mountains and dens and caves of the earth - there is NO secret rapture which is only an heretical apostate Lurianic Talmudic Judaic doctrine], until the anger of the Lord shall pass away.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

And see: The Abomination of Desolation

Note in the below that this is a description of the evil that precedes the Antichrist who is the Abomination of Desolation. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ then comes after the reign of Antichrist has proceeded for a while. Antichrist, his reign and the False Prophet and all their followers are then destroyed by the Second Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ from heaven with all His elect Angels and sent to hell forever. The saints will then reign with Our Lord Jesus Christ at their head on earth forever.

Palestine, which is properly the Holy Land for in it walked God in the flesh, Jesus Christ, and there He allowed Himself to be sacrificed for the salvation of those who profess Him from the heart and with the mouth, is a miniature of all the evil that has come upon the earth and there will the final evil be concentrated in its fullness and rule from there for a short time.

From: The Abomination of Desolation

Writing in the second century, St. Hippolytus wrote the following about the evil that will abound before the coming of Antichrist:

The temples of God will be like houses, and there will be overturnings of the churches everywhere. The Scriptures will be despised, and everywhere they will sing the songs of the adversary. Fornications, and adulteries, and perjuries will fill the land; sorceries, and incantations, and divinations will follow after these with all force and zeal. And, on the whole, from among those who profess to be Christians will rise up then false prophets, false apostles, impostors, mischief-makers, evil-doers, liars against each other, adulterers, fornicators, robbers, grasping, perjured, mendacious, hating each other. The shepherds will be like wolves; the priests will embrace falsehood; the monks will lust after the things of the world; the rich will assume hardness of heart; the rulers will not help the poor; the powerful will cast off all pity; the judges will remove justice from the just, and, blinded with bribes, they will call in unrighteousness.

CHAPTER XXVIII.

The resurrection of Christ. His commission to his disciples.

1 And *in the end of the sabbath, when it began to dawn towards the first day of the week,

18 And Jesus coming, spoke to them, saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth.

19 *Going, therefore, teach ye all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit;

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.

Method of Baptism

From the Didache (49 A.D. Council of Jerusalem):

Chapter 7. Concerning Baptism.

And concerning baptism, baptize this way: Having first said all these things, baptize the one to be baptized into Jesus Christ in "the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," in running water. But if you have no running water, baptize into other water [still water]; and if you cannot do so in cold water, do so in warm. But if you have neither, pour out water three times upon the head onto the one to be baptized saying at that time "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." But before the baptism, if possible, let the baptizer fast, and the baptized, and whoever else can; but you shall order the baptized [when there is time] to fast one or two days before.

Baptism can and should always be performed immediately when there is danger of death of the one to be baptized. For instance, impending martyrdom or possible death causing illness.

See this for why Jesus Christ must be confessed as the Holy Word and Son of God: The Final Trial: Mary - revered by both Christians and Muslims as the vessel through whom God made the Word, Jesus Christ, Incarnate

The Muslim feast of Eid only commemorates the typological sacrifice by Abraham of Issac. That prefigured the final and only Supreme Sacrifice of Jesus Christ on His Most Holy Cross. It is only by the Sacrifice of Christ on His Cross that we are saved. Jesus Christ commanded, not suggested, that we be baptized; echoing the rest of the Church Fathers, St. Augustine noted that if someone could not be baptized even though they wanted it and did everything they could to be baptized in the water in name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, then their confession of faith is enough for their salvation. But no where are we allowed to refuse baptism.

All Muslims and everyone who will, are invited and encouraged to come to the water of life now and be baptized in the water and in the Spirit in name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit and receive Communion.

In the below “Dam (Blood) Kadosh (Holy) bet Yeshua ha Maschiach (Jesus Christ) kanawn anawim (have mercy on Your faithful [those who turn to God by the shed Blood of Christ on Calvary])” is asking for God's forgiveness by the shed Holy Blood of Christ – which is the only forgiveness there is from God for sin.

Four people were killed and 29 others were injured on Sunday as an explosion ripped through a bus full of tourists on the Egyptian side of the Taba border.
Egyptian officials identified the casualties as three South Korean tourists and an
Egyptian bus driver. Almost all 33 passengers on the bus were wounded by the explosion, officials said, according to the Associated Press.
Egyptian security forces were deployed to the area, and the border crossing was closed on both sides.
Ofir GendelmanOfir Gendelman, spokesman for israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said “Five of the passengers in serious conditions from the bus explosion were transferred for treatment at the Yoseftal l hospital (Yoseftal Medical Center) in Eilat”.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear. The bus had arrived at the Taba crossing from the ancient Greek Orthodox monastery of St. Catherine’s in central Sinai, security officials said.
State television showed a photograph of the bus. Its windows were blown out and the roof had been partially torn off. Plumes of black smoke billowed from the site of the explosion on a palm tree-lined boulevard.
Morsi appeared in court on Sunday on charges of conspiring with foreign groups to commit terrorist acts in Egypt.

12 Soldiers Killed In Car Bomb Attack in Egypt

egyptSky News - At least 12 Egyptian soldiers have been killed and 24 wounded in a car bomb attack in Sinai, according to Sky sources.
According to reports a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into one of two busses carrying off-duty soldiers between Rafah and el-Arish, the regional capital of North Sinai, where security forces are battling Islamists.
The blast was one of the deadliest attacks in the Sinai since al Qaeda-inspired militants began stepping up assaults following the army’s ousting of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.
Although no group has claimed responsibility, suicide car bombings are a signature method used by militant groups linked to or inspired by al Qaeda.
Sky News’ Middle East producer Tom Rayner said: “This area has seen unrest for some time but that unrest, lawlessness and insurgency the army are trying to fight has increased in intensity since the coup against former President Morsi in July.
“What we’ve seen since then is an increase in attacks against soldiers at checkpoints in the Sinai but also in Egypt itself here have been repeated attacks on army checkpoints.
“The anger is based around the fact they are trying to control this area where there are tunnels going into Gaza. This will be a serious omen for the Egyptian army in their attempts to control insurgency in the north of the Sinai.”
The attack came after one person was killed and dozens more injured during clashes between opponents and supporters of Egypt’s military-backed regime in Cairo’s Tahrir Square on Tuesday.
Police backed by armoured vehicles fired tear gas and shots to drive protesters out the square after they gathered to mark the anniversary of the 2011 demonstrations against the military which took power after Hosni Mubarak’s overthrow.

During those protests more than 40 protesters were killed during fighting with security forces which lasted several days.
Tuesday’s rally was aimed against people the protesters felt had “betrayed” the revolution – Mubarak loyalists, the military council that ruled for 17 months after his fall, and the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood which won subsequent elections but was ousted by the military in July.
The military handed power to Islamist president Mr Morsi in June 2012, after he won the country’s first free election, but overthrew him a year later following mass protests demanding his resignation.
Some protesters threw rocks and fireworks but left the square shortly after the security forces moved in.
Security forces have killed hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood members since Mr Morsi was removed from power.
Thousands have been arrested and the group has been outlawed.
The new military-backed government of General Abdel Fatah al Sisi is pushing ahead with a transition plan aiming for new presidential and parliamentary elections early next year.

Deadly Clashes Erupt in Egypt - NYTimes.com

Deadly Clashes Erupt in Egypt

CAIRO — Clashes erupted across much of Egypt on Sunday between security forces and supporters of the ousted president, Mohamed Morsi, leaving 28 people dead, as rival crowds of supporters of the military and backers of Mr. Morsi poured into streets to commemorate a major holiday.

The clashes took place 40 years to the day that Egyptian forces crossed the Suez Canal

at the start of the nation’s last war with Israel. The day has since been declared a national holiday. The military-backed government had wanted the day to be a tribute to the armed forces, whose chief ousted Mr. Morsi in a coup on July 3.
But demonstrations across Cairo and much of the country by Mr. Morsi’s supporters marred the festivities. They and security forces fought pitched battles in the streets of Cairo, some of which now resemble combat zones, with small fires burning, black smoke rising and the sound of gunshots piercing air thick with tear gas.
In some cases, the pro-Morsi demonstrators were set upon by supporters of the military. The authorities said they had arrested 335 Morsi supporters nationwide.
The clashes were the last chapter in the turmoil roiling the country since the ouster in February 2011 of the country’s longtime ruler, Hosni Mubarak, and are certain to set back efforts by the government to revive the economy, especially the vital tourism sector, and bring order to the streets of Cairo, where crime and lawlessness have been rife.
The scene of the fighting contrasted with a carnival-like mood in Cairo’s central Tahrir Square, where thousands of supporters of the military waved Egyptian flags, blew whistles and carried posters of the army chief, Gen. Abdul-Fattah el-Sissi. Adding to the festivities, a military band in green jackets and off-white pants played, and men spun in whirling dervish-style dances.
Thousands of Morsi backers meanwhile held marches around the city, shouting slogans against General Sissi as some headed toward Tahrir Square in hopes of forcing their way into the sprawling plaza.
At central locations including a southern entrance to the square, the police fired into the air and lobbed tear gas to push back several pro-Morsi marchers as they approached. Some of the dead however suffered gunshot wounds to the head and chest and the pro-Morsi demonstrators were also lobbing firebombs and firing birdshot at the police.
Violence was also reported in southern Egypt, where one Morsi supporter was killed in the town of Dalga. The police opened fire on a march by Islamists after some of the protesters fired birdshot at the police, according to the provincial security chief, Osama Metwali.

U.S. Raids in Libya and Somalia Strike Terror Targets - NYTimes.com

U.S. Raids in Libya and Somalia Strike Terror Targets

CAIRO — American commandos carried out raids on Saturday in two far-flung African countries in a powerful flex of military muscle aimed at capturing fugitive terrorist suspects. American troops assisted by F.B.I. and C.I.A. agents seized a suspected leader of Al Qaeda on the streets of Tripoli, Libya, while Navy SEALs raided the seaside villa of a militant leader in a predawn firefight on the coast of Somalia.

In Tripoli, American forces captured a Libyan militant who had been indicted in 2000 for his role in the 1998 bombings of the United States embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. The militant, born Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai and known by his nom de guerre, Abu Anas al-Liby, had a $5 million bounty on his head; his capture at dawn ended a 15-year manhunt.
In Somalia, the Navy SEAL team emerged before sunrise from the Indian Ocean and exchanged gunfire with militants at the home of a senior leader of the Shabab, the Somali militant group. The raid was planned more than a week ago, officials said, after a massacre by the Shabab at a Nairobi shopping mall that killed more than 60 people two weeks ago.
The SEAL team was forced to withdraw before it could confirm that it had killed the Shabab leader, a senior American security official said. Officials declined to identify the target.
Officials said the timing of the two raids was coincidental. But occurring on the same day, they underscored the rise of northern Africa as a haven for international terrorists. Libya has collapsed into the control of a patchwork of militias since the ouster of the Qaddafi government in 2011. Somalia, the birthplace of the Shabab, has lacked an effective central government for more than two decades.
With President Obama locked in a standoff with Congressional Republicans and his leadership criticized for a policy reversal in Syria, the raids could fuel accusations among his critics that the administration was eager for a showy foreign policy victory.
Abu Anas, the Libyan Qaeda leader, was considered a major prize, and officials said he was alive in United States custody. While the details about his capture were sketchy, an American official said Saturday night that he appeared to have been taken peacefully and that he was “no longer in Libya.”
His capture was the latest blow to what remains of the original Qaeda organization after a 12-year American campaign to capture or kill its leadership, including the killing two years ago of its founder, Osama bin Laden, in Pakistan.
Despite his presence in Libya, Abu Anas was not believed to have played any role in the 2012 attack on the United States diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, senior officials briefed on that investigation have said, but he may have sought to build networks connecting what remains of the Qaeda organization to like-minded militants in Libya.
His brother, Nabih, told The Associated Press that just after dawn prayers, three vehicles full of armed men had approached Abu Anas’s home and surrounded him as he parked his car. The men smashed his window, seized his gun and sped away with him, the brother said.
A senior American official said the Libyan government had been apprised of the operation and provided assistance, but it was unclear in what capacity. An assistant to the prime minister of the Libyan transitional government said the government had been unaware of any operation or of Abu Anas’s capture. Asked if American forces had ever conducted raids inside Libya or collaborated with Libyan forces, Mehmoud Abu Bahia, assistant to the defense minister, replied, “Absolutely not.”
Disclosure of the raid is likely to inflame anxieties among many Libyans about their national sovereignty, putting a new strain on the transitional government’s fragile authority. Many Libyan Islamists already accuse their interim prime Minister, Ali Zeidan, who previously lived in Geneva as part of the exiled opposition to Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, of collaborating too closely with the West.
Abu Anas, 49, was born in Tripoli and joined Bin Laden’s organization as early as the early 1990s, when it was based in Sudan. He later moved to Britain, where he was granted political asylum as a Libyan dissident. United States prosecutors in New York charged him in a 2000 indictment with helping to conduct “visual and photographic surveillance” of the United States Embassy in Nairobi in 1993 and again in 1995. Prosecutors said in the indictment that Abu Anas had discussed with another senior Qaeda figure the idea of attacking an American target in retaliation for the United States peacekeeping operation in Somalia.
After the 1998 bombing, the British police raided his apartment and found an 18-chapter terrorist training manual. Written in Arabic and titled “Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants,” it included advice on car bombing, torture, sabotage and disguise.
Since the overthrow of Colonel Qaddafi, Tripoli has slid steadily into lawlessness, with no strong central government or police presence. It has become a safe haven for militants seeking to avoid detection elsewhere, and United States government officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss confidential information, have acknowledged in recent months that Abu Anas and other wanted terrorists had been seen moving freely around the capital.
The operation to capture Abu Anas was several weeks in the making, a United States official said, and President Obama was regularly briefed as the suspect was tracked in Tripoli. Mr. Obama had to approve the capture. He had often promised there would be “no boots on the ground” in Libya when the United States intervened there in March 2011, so the decision to send in Special Operations forces was a risky one.

Next is the crushing of any sovereignty of the land that the book of Daniel meant by Ethiopia. The Communist rule of dictator 1974 - 1991 Mengistu Haile Mariam of Ethiopia (yet another Army Officer), was only an interim balkanization of modern North Eastern Africa. The land meant by Ethiopia (Cush in the Bible) in the Book of Daniel covers present day Southern Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia. Present day Ethiopia still has a central power to all of this. The Antichrist of Israel will seek its utter destruction and will topple it completely.

American officials said they would want to question Abu Anas for several weeks. But they did not dispute that New York, where an indictment is pending against him, was most likely his ultimate destination. Mr. Obama has been loath to add to the prisoner count at the American military facility at Guantánamo Bay, and there is precedent for delivering those suspected of terrorism to New York if they are under indictment there.
The operation will do nothing to quell the continuing questions about the events in Benghazi 13 months ago that led to the deaths of four Americans. But officials say the operation was a product of the decision after Benghazi to bolster the counterterrorism effort in Libya, especially as Tripoli became a safe haven for Qaeda leadership.
The capture of Abu Anas also coincided with a fierce gunfight that killed 15 Libyan soldiers at a checkpoint in a neighborhood southeast of Tripoli, near the traditional home of Abu Anas’s clan.
A spokesman for the Libyan Army general staff, Col. Ali Sheikhi, said five cars full of armed men in masks pulled up at the army checkpoint at 6:15 a.m. and opened fire at point-blank range. It was not clear if the assault at the checkpoint was related to the capture of Abu Anas or his removal from Libya.
The raid in Somalia was the most significant raid by American troops in that lawless country since commandoskilled Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, a Qaeda mastermind, near the same coastal town four years ago. The town, Baraawe, a small port south of Mogadishu, is known as a gathering place for the Shabab’s foreign fighters.
Witnesses described a firefight lasting over an hour, with helicopters called in for air support. A senior Somali government official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “The attack was carried out by the American forces, and the Somali government was pre-informed about the attack.”
A spokesman for the Shabab said that one of their fighters had been killed in an exchange of gunfire but that the group had beaten back the assault. American officials initially reported that they had seized the Shabab leader, but later backed off that account.
A United States official said that no Americans had been killed or wounded and that the Americans “disengaged after inflicting some Shabab casualties.”
“We are not in a position to identify those casualties,” the official said.
The F.B.I. sent dozens of agents to Nairobi after the siege of the Westgate shopping mall to help the Kenyan authorities with the investigation. United States officials fear that the Shabab could attempt a similar attack on American soil, perhaps employing Somali-American recruits.
A witness in Baraawe said the house was known as a place where senior foreign commanders stayed. He could not say whether they were there when the attack began, but he said 12 well-trained Shabab fighters scheduled for a mission abroad were staying there at the time of the assault.
It was not clear what role if any the target of the American assault had played in the attack on the Nairobi mall. One United States official said it was still unclear whether any Americans had been involved in the Westgate siege, though several Kenyan officials said they now believed that there had been as few as four attackers — far fewer than the 10 to 15 the government had previously reported.
A spokesman for the Kenyan military said Saturday that it had identified four of the attackers from surveillance footage as Abu Baara al-Sudani, Omar Nabhan, Khattab al-Kene and a man known only as Umayr.
The spokesman, Maj. Emmanuel Chirchir, said none of the militants had escaped the mall. “They’re all dead,” he said.
The footage, broadcast on Kenyan television on Friday night, showed four attackers moving about the mall with cool nonchalance.
At least one of the four men, Mr. Nabhan, was Kenyan, officials said, and believed to be a younger relative of Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, the Qaeda operative killed four years ago near Baraawe, the site of Saturday’s raid.
The elder Mr. Nabhan was a suspect in the bombing of an Israeli hotel on the Kenyan coast in 2002 and the attacks on the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998.
Matt Bryden, a former head of the United Nations Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea, said the tactics used in the Westgate attack were similar to those used by the Shabab in a number of operations in Somalia this year. But he also said that local help had been needed to pull off an attack on that scale, and that several of the men identified as taking part in the attack had been connected to the group’s Kenyan affiliate, known as Al Hijra.
“We should certainly expect Al Hijra and Al Shabab to try again,” Mr. Bryden said. “And we should expect them to have the capacity to do so.”

25 Egyptian Policemen Executed in Sinai - Fingers Point at Israel

إسرائيل متورطة ومستفيدة من إغراق مصر في الصراعات الدموية
SanaiIsrael the jewish state is led by zionist extremists and religious parties which believe that God gave the jews all the territories from the Nile in Egypt to the Euphrates river in Iraq. The jews are not only interested in the Sinai Peninsula, from where they were expelled in 1979 after signing a peace treaty Egypt, but also in the Egyptian territories east of the Nile river.
If analyzed with this context in mind it becomes obvious that the only beneficiary of the recent clashes in Egypt is Israel, and the only beneficiary of the violence and heating up of societal conflicts in Egypt is Israel, which is directing these conflicts and atrocities directly and indirectly via its allies worldwide who are in positions of power and influence in politics, diplomacy, media, finance, etc.
At the current time Israel is keen to kindle conflicts in Egypt’s society by a variety of means, including its support in weapons, ammunition and money for terrorist militants from fundamentalist movements set up by the CIA and other western agencies. The jewish propagandists who own the international media are taking care to put heavy make-up on the face of israel to make it appear to the world as “human” eager to take care about its Egyptian neighbours.
Yesterday the Egyptian military killed at least 38 detainees who had been supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi. In order to heat up the already charged atmosphere between the two conflicting parties in Egypt, the zionists moved their terror gangs in Sinai to perpetrate a crime against the regime. The terrorists executed 25 Egyptian policemen and the crime was made to look as if it was in revenge to the previous killing of Muslim detainees by the regime.
Concurrently with this crime the zionist international media lunched a campaign in favour of Israel, emphasizing how the israeli diplomats around the world had “taken steps towards helping Egypt” and convincing the EU and other world leaders to “support the Egyptian army against the “devil” Muslims”.
The New York Times reported that israel is planning to “intensify its diplomatic campaign” urging Europe and the United States to support the military-backed government in Egypt. The paper said that Israeli ambassadors in Washington, London, Paris, Berlin, Brussels and other capitals would lobby foreign ministers. At the same time, leaders here will press the case with diplomats from abroad that the military is the only hope to prevent further chaos in Cairo.
The link between the hysteric propaganda in the favour of israel in the international media and the bloody crime in the Sinai desert was established by the same media, as it was explained immediately that the murder of these 25 policemen had been perpetrated in revenge of the death of the Egyptian detainees, before waiting for the results of even the most cursory investigation by Egyptian authorities, The only possible conclusion of this gaffe is that Israel itself is behind this vile terrorist attack against Egyptian police, with the ultimate intention of inflaming the animosities between different factions of Egyptian society.

The recent escalation of jihadi activity in the Sinai Peninsula has added a new dimension to the geostrategic uncertainties of the post-Mubarak era. Like the fallen regime, the Sinai served as a buffer in the cold peace between the Egyptian and Israeli populations. With the Egyptian military in the Sinai suffering its greatest personnel losses since the 1970s, public anger has been channeled into loud calls to renegotiate the 1978 Camp David Accords to restore full Egyptian sovereignty over the peninsula. However, senior Egyptian officials have remained quiet about the issue, focusing their efforts instead on rooting out Salafi militants and addressing the root causes of instability in Sinai and, to an extent, the Gaza Strip as well.
Sixteen Egyptian soldiers were killed on August 5 by Salafi militants en route to the Kerem Shalom border crossing into Israel. The assailants were met with resistance from the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) Bedouin Reconnaissance Battalion before their stolen armored personnel carrier was destroyed by an Israeli Air Force (IAF) strike inside Israeli territory. Another pick-up truck ridden with explosives was blown up at the border. Eight militants were killed in the attack, while an estimated 27 retreated into Egypt (Jerusalem Post, August 6; Daily News Egypt, August 7).
In response, President Muhammad Mursi launched “Operation Sinai,” calling on security forces to “implement entire control” over the peninsula and the northern towns of al-Arish, Rafah, and Shaykh Zuwayid. This was the second major operation in the area since the revolution; an attack on the al-Arish police station in August 2011 prompted the deployment of two Special Forces brigades and 1,000 soldiers in a campaign dubbed “Operation Eagle” (Bikya Masr [Cairo], August 16, 2011). Egypt’s State Security Emergency Court issued 14 death sentences to members of Tawhid wa’l-Jihad in connection with the Arish incident on September 24 (Ahram Online, September 24).
After one month, the military completed “phase one” of operation, killing 32 militants, arresting 58 suspects and closing 31 smuggling tunnels linking Sinai to Gaza. Security forces also seized caches of automatic weapons, mortars, anti-tank mines and anti-aircraft guns from Palestinian and Bedouin jihadis (Al-Shorouk [Cairo], September 9). [1]
Peace discussions between a presidential delegation and tribal leaders were dropped after militants killed an Egyptian soldier in a new attack on the northern Sinai security headquarters in al-Arish on September 16, using rocket propelled grenades and automatic weapons in the assault. Fighting also occurred in Rafah and Shaykh Zuwayid, where the army targeted militants with helicopters and dozens of APCs. Earlier that day, security forces in the village of Mahdia also detained four militants connected with the August 5 attacks (Ma’an News Agency, September 16).
A Sinai-based militant group using the name Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (Supporters of the Holy Place, i.e. Jerusalem) claimed responsibility for an attack on the Israeli border that killed an IDF soldier on September 21, saying it was a response to the Innocence of Muslims film made by “the doomed pigs of the (Coptic) diaspora.” [2] The same group has claimed responsibility for earlier cross-border rocket attacks and an attack on the pipeline carrying natural gas from Egypt to Israel.
Egyptian officials have consistently played down fears of an Islamist insurgency in the Sinai. As late as July a security advisor dismissed the jihadist threat, claiming that “Israel, like many parties, has vested interests in making up dangers in Sinai” (Egypt Independent, July 4). Egyptian Intelligence Chief Murad Mowafi came under heavy criticism for his unpreparedness, especially given that Israeli officials publically warned of an increased threat in a travel alert issued to its citizens. Mowafi admitted he had “detailed information about the attack, but we never imagined that a Muslim would kill a Muslim on the hour of breaking the fast in Ramadan” (Bikya Masr, August 7). Commenting in the aftermath of the unprecedented attack, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak expressed his condolences and hoped the incident would serve as a “wake-up call for the Egyptians to take matters into their own hands” (Ha’aretz, August 6, 2012).
President Mursi exploited public anger to sack Mowafi and a dozen senior military leaders, including Defense Minister and Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) Chairman Muhammad Hussein Tantawi, Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Sami Enan and the heads of the navy, air force and air defense (Ahram Online, August 14). The moves prompted fears in Israel that a reshuffled SCAF hierarchy under the control of the Muslim Brotherhood would not be as cooperative with Israel (Times of Israel, August 12). However, Mursi has continuously stressed his intention to respect all international agreements (Bikya Masr, August 7). In addition, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has confirmed that the two countries continue to consult with each other regarding additional troop placements in the Sinai under the “Agreed Activities Mechanism” overseen by the Multinational Forces and Observers (MFO) (Arutz Sheva, September 9; for Egyptian-Israeli tensions and the MFO, see Terrorism Monitor, May 18). Reacting to persistent calls from Egypt to amend the treaty, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman stated: “There is no chance Israel will agree to any kind of change” (Times of Israel, September 23).
In the long term, Egyptian officials are keen to stamp out the root causes of the lawlessness and instability in the Sinai. Prime Minister Hisham Qandil has pledged to provide $ 270 million to support development projects in the area, an unfulfilled promise of former presidents Anwar Sadat and Hosni Mubarak. In an attempt to draw the Bedouin away from smuggling and other illicit activities the government will also review proposals for free trade zones in Rafah, al-Arish, and Nuweiba (Egypt State Information Service, September 4).
The current troubles in the Sinai are largely a spillover of insecurity, desperation, and economic deprivation in the Gaza Strip. To stifle the dangerous flow of arms, extremist ideology and Palestinian militants into Sinai, all parties (including Egypt, Fatah, Hamas, and Israel) will need to work to address the ongoing economic blockade of Gaza and the Palestinian Authority’s political crisis. Using its contacts with Hamas, Egypt will use the opening of Rafah border as a bargaining chip to push for further Palestinian reconciliation in the run-up to future Palestinian Authority elections. However, Egypt will be careful not to provoke Israel into permanently closing the Kerem Shalom border crossing between Gaza and Israel, which would essentially transfer full responsibility over Gaza to Egypt.
The August 5 attacks highlighted the neglect of Egyptian security forces towards the threat of Salafi militancy in the Sinai Peninsula. Efforts to re-establish control over the buffer zone resurrected traditional grievances in all parties to the conflict. As “Operation Sinai” enters its second phase, more efforts to alleviate some of the deep grievances of the Bedouin population will be needed, as well as long-term steps to address the unsustainable situation in Gaza. Politicians from all sides will look to secure a breakthrough that could ease popular Egyptian pressure to renegotiate the Camp David Accords, particularly since the Military Annex to the Accords already provides the necessary mechanisms to address the current crisis through mutual consultations. In the absence of an Egyptian political and military apparatus to guarantee peace, both sides would benefit from Sinai’s return as a strategic and symbolic buffer zone.

Egypt Seized Two Tons of Explosives Underway to Sinai Peninsula

sinaiEL-ARISH – Egypt – AP – Agencies – Kawther Salam – Egyptian security officials say they have seized two tons of explosives headed to the Sinai Peninsula from Cairo. The explosives were seized in the main Suez Canal transport tunnel that links Egypt to the Sinai. The truck driver is being questioned.
Egyptian security officials searched a truck driving from Cairo towards Sinai, and found one ton of explosives hidden inside. The contents were seized and the driver taken for questioning.
On Friday, Egypt seized two tons of explosives being transported from Cairo to the restive Sinai Peninsula. Police received a tip-off that smugglers were taking the cargo through the Ahmad Hamdi tunnel under the Suez Canal.
It was revealed that the driver told the police that he was taking the shipment to a smuggler in Ras Sudr, on the west shore of the Sinai. In January, Egypt seized six anti-aircraft and anti-tank rockets in the Sinai Peninsula.
My source from Cairo who requested anonymity stated that the Egyptian security forces have recently had successes in several operations carried out through Sinai Peninsula. They gathered large quantities of the smuggled weapons and ammunition out of the hands of Wahhabi and radical Salafis Terrorist groups.
According to the same source, the state security has threatened terrorists who hide themselves in the desert of Sinai to leave. The source stated that the terrorists are a group of outsiders, “Wahhabis” of Saudi origin, radical Salafis and Muslim Brotherhood elements who infiltrated illegally into sovereign territory of Egypt, in Sinai Peninsula. They all will be killed if they do not return to where they came from.
The sources said that most of the terrorists in Sinai had been eliminated during the Egyptian army Operation “Al-Nisser” “The Eagle” which was stopped following the instructions of the current Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi.
The US had told President Morsi to end the operation after the israelis protested against the presence of the Egyptian army in Sinai. The israelis saw the operation as a violation of the Camp David agreement signed between Egypt and israel which does not allow the presence of the Egyptian army in Sinai.
According to my source, the security demanded that all the terrorists in Sinai steer free of Egyptian territory and return to where they came from, in the same way as they entered Sinai, whether they entered from the Gaza Strip or from other crossing and locations, their only alternative being to face death. They are ALL wanted, surrounded and under the eyes of the Egyptian security.
The Palestinian Hamas figures in Gaza distanced themselves from the terrorist’s attacks in Sinai. The Palestinians accused the Israeli intelligence “Mossad” of helping the terrorists to carry out the attack against the Egyptian army.
Operation Eagle was an Egyptian military campaign in the Sinai Peninsula that was launched in August 2011 to confront the Sinai terrorists. The campaign was aimed against the Islamist terrorists, who had been attacking the Egyptian security forces in the Sinai. Another operation named “Operation Sinai” against the terrorists was continued in 2012.
