Iran is Tying to Penetrate the Ranks of the Syrian Opposition « Kawther Salam
Mr. Jamal Murad, the representative of the Syrian Coordination in Austria for support of the Syrian revolution, has described the position of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard towards the Syrian revolution as “it is very negative”, accusing them of involvement in the terrorist and criminal acts carried out by the Syrian government against the Syrian civil population and the peaceful marches since the beginning of the revolution.

Mr. Jamal Murad, the representative of the Syrian Coordination in Austria for support of the Syrian revolution, has described the position of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard towards the Syrian revolution as “it is very negative”, accusing them of involvement in the terrorist and criminal acts carried out by the Syrian government against the Syrian civil population and the peaceful marches since the beginning of the revolution.
He said that there is ample evidence which confirm the involvement of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the humiliation of the Syrian people during the revolution of freedom.
Mr. Murad reported about the Iranian regime’s attempts to contact the Syrian opposition in two ways:
- 1 – The Iranians are supporting the Syrian regime by all means and ways. They are involved with the Assad regime in all kind of criminal operations against the Syrian people
- 2 – They have tried to contact the opposition in an attempt to persuade them to negotiate with the corrupt Syrian regime. In this way they have succeeded in reaching small and weak groups among oppositions but they failed to achieve their overall goal.
Mr. Murad did not deny that the Iranians had contact with the representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood and senior Syrian figures of the opposition who are currently in Turkey, saying: “several meetings were held between the opposition and regional and international parties in Turkey, among them were Iranians”, adding that the Muslim Brotherhood supports dialogue with the oppositions as a positive development to end to the tragic situation in Syria.
He described the meetings held with representatives of Iran as “formal and sterile”. According to him, they were far away from the content of the conflict and they did not provide an outcome useful towards ending of the conflict in the future, as their conclusions were far away from the demands of the Syrian opposition groups. He said that the number of meetings were a desperate attempt by the Iranian regime to break the barrier of the opposition against the Syrian regime. He described them as “satanic, desperate attempts to infiltrate the ranks of the opposition, who stood as a difficult challenge before the Iranians”.

About the attempts to Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi, who has tried to engage Iran in the dialogue of the Quartet committee, Mag. Murad said that Morsi wanted to involve Iran in the solution of the situation in Syria “because Iran is part of the problem” and he wanted Iran to commit to and apply any solution, but of the Quartet committee dialogue has failed and then forced President Morsi to declare that Egypt is committed to any Arab military intervention against the forces of the Syrian regime that could end the awful disaster in Syria.
Mr. Murad replied to our question about what are the reasons behind the withdrawal of Iranian battalions from Syria by saying that the Iranian regime had “entered into a game to defend themselves”. He added that “the rules of the game have changed for Iran” and because of that the Iranian regime had been forced to withdraw its troops from Syria and return them home, where the Iranian opposition is starting to gain increased influence under the deteriorated current political situation in that country.
He described the political situation inside Iran as “neither stable nor comfortable” what causes the Iranian regime to fear being deposed, especially in light of the recently deteriorated economic situation in Iran.
