PressTV - A world infected with US-Israel psychological operations
by Gordon Duff
Few understand the real crime of deception. Deception can be a simple betrayal or can be contrived to drive you to murder your friends or defend monsters.
Military deception is called “psyops” or “psychological operations” and is, frankly, tasked specifically with creating wrong beliefs to rob leaders or entire populations of their judgment.
A successful “psyop” can be more powerful than any attack. Without firing a shot, you can seem to be defeated, be fooled into misjudging enemies and allies or be set on the path of destroying yourself.
If you are a nation, you are constantly under attack from psychological operations. If you are a nation, it is a prime responsibility to defend your people from “psyops” attacks designed to undermine faith in institutions, to foster dissent and exploit fear or create anger and feelings of being cheated.
Today’s world view, from the economic to racial and religious to social, political and military is all hopelessly infected with calculated disinformation created in order to realign society based on belief in falsehood in order to enfeeble and enslave, to drive the civil and good to acts of bestiality through exploiting the genetic weakness Darwinists tell us is bred into man’s character, our “reptilian mind.”
Deception is the basis of any military education, the basis of business practices, the basis of diplomacy, the underlying basis of the world’s currencies and economic systems and, more than ever, how civilization with 5000 years of learning and advancement can justify unbridled killing of the innocent or “collateral” as justifiable for a “common good” none ever understand or agree to.
Recently, we have stumbled on “psyops” planned during the Bush administration through one of our associates who worked in the White House as a member of the National Security Council under Condi Rice and previously with the Clinton administration.
This is Gwyneth Todd, former Iran Desk Chief of the National Security Agency, former “Political Intelligence Chief” for the US 5th Fleet, controlling the area known as the Middle East and South Asia.
She was chief policy advisor, stationed in Bahrain, tasked with interpreting regional politics and helping military leaders in the region understand Iran.
Hours of public interviews with Todd over recent days has given us “insider views” into the workings of the twisted psyches of many of the most powerful figures in American military and foreign policy. What we have learned has been frightening.
We now have written proof of not just widespread espionage rings and wars staged for profit but American officials planning terror attacks and assassinations in and around the Persian Gulf.
We have been supplied with lists of corroborating witnesses that including cabinet officers who, though nominated by the president and confirmed by the senate, were bullied and threatened by thugs and criminals who were and may well still be the real government of the United States.
It had become standard policy within the US government to promote spies, war criminals and incompetents out of fear of blackmail or, worse yet, complicity in their illegal acts.
Thus, many well-known names in American public service including serving members of our military actually belong in prison yet live among us, exercise great power and influence and, in fact, infect our world with their presence.
This week, former presidential candidate John McCain criticized President Obama for failing to attack Iran. To many in America who have no accurate information about McCain’s background, they are unaware that he is only out of prison because President Nixon issued him a pardon for crimes he committed during his time as a prisoner in North Vietnam.
Two high ranking officers, Colonel Earl Hopper and Colonel Ted Guy, both of unimpeachable reputation, accused McCain of dozens of counts of treason. My own observations of his actions over the last few decades have proven him to obstruct attempts to repatriate American prisoners of war from Vietnam through having evidence of their existence classified and destroyed.
Military and intelligence insiders have always called McCain “The Manchurian Candidate,” after the fictional assassin “brainwashed” by North Koreans in the Frank Sinatra film. McCain is believed to have either been brainwashed or blackmailed into spying on the US and acting as a “one many lobby” for the Soviet Union and North Vietnam during the Cold War.
His current “task” is to provoke a conflict with Iran. He has spoken on news shows, been quoted in newspapers, it is as though his only reason to continue living is to start a war.
McCain, however, has a long history of mental instability, financial dishonesty and questionable personal morals. If earlier assessments are accurate, that would indicate that someone is acting as McCain’s “controller.” Those who know McCain find him mercurial, deeply flawed and with a mediocre intellect, and these are his closest friends.
As I work, on a daily basis with what was the US Army’s top POW recovery officer, I have endless direct access to the extent solid intelligence proving living American prisoners were being held.
All were killed though all would have been saved but for the efforts of McCain to interfere with either their retrieval or negotiations for their repatriation.
I am able to produce unimpeachable sources of this evidence as are many but in a state where there is no freedom of press, the abandonment and subsequent killing of up to 1200 Americans at the hands of a prominent politician who appears to have been in league with America’s enemies is of no consequence.
Much of our recent history, particularly involving issues in the Middle East, is based on either widespread belief in total falsehoods or indifference to well known lies. Nearly all in America, Canada, Britain and Germany are aware that the invasion of Iraq was a war crime perpetrated by national leaders who live like Arab princes as long as they don’t travel to nations where they face extradition and trial for war crimes. So, though thousands of Americans and hundreds of British were, in actuality, murdered through criminal acts by their own heads of state and that fact is accepted by all and the general public has been extremely forgiving as long as they are supplied with distractions such as the search and subsequent assassination of an 85-year-old Abbotabad, Pakistan home owner represented as the resurrection of the long dead CIA asset, Osama bin Laden.
Just this week, the Haqqani Network, another CIA asset, was moved onto the “terror list,” or, more appropriately, the “distraction list.”
The nature of combined Israeli/American psychological operations is designed to change directions in seconds. If a setback occurs in Syria, they then turn on Gaza or Lebanon.
Then there is always Iran and its imaginary nuclear weapon, impossible to find, proof of Iran’s wondrous ability to misplace that which does not exist.
This is one of the tenets of psychological operations. When you can’t find something, it simply means it is cleverly hidden, perhaps in another nation that might even be more convenient to attack.
In 2004, Israel demanded the US invade Syria in order to find the weapons that Saddam never had. The US was to destroy Syria on a “snipe hunt” based on nothing but wild assumptions. No newspaper reported this but it is true and easily documented just the same.
Another odd fact involves the Israeli advance into Lebanon in 2006. Israel was confronted by Hezbollah using highly effective shoulder-mounted-weapons which made the “real life” combat environment unhealthy for armor and attack helicopters.
What we have learned, however, is that the US sent the 5th fleet into the Mediterranean to use their combined force to cover Israel’s withdrawal or they might never have been able to disengage.
We learned of this during an interview involving the capture of several pirates off Somalia. Rather than drop off the live suspects and 3 dead in Mombasa, the ship involved was ordered to sail full speed through the Suez Canal with the rest of the US 5th Fleet, to be offshore in order to provide additional air cover and fire support for Israel’s “run with your tail between your legs” tactical withdrawal from Lebanon.
If a military action of this size can be kept secret, this many ships moved through the Suez Canal, how difficult would major military action inside, let’s say, Syria be to hide?
If the will is there to deceive about this and so much else, what are we being deceived about now or what can we expect?

PressTV - Al-Qaeda, US, and Syrian Crisis
by Ben Schreiner
Al-Qaeda, US, and Syrian Crisis
As Reuters noted, “During his previous visits to Syria - in March and May - Beres said he had dismissed suggestions the rebels were dominated by Islamist fighters but he said he had now been forced to reassess the situation.”
"It's really something strange to see,” Beres stated. “They [the rebels] are directly saying that they aren't interested in Bashar al-Assad's fall, but are thinking about how to take power afterwards and set up an Islamic state with sharia law to become part of the world Emirate.”
Such a credible firsthand account only adds to the mounting body of evidence found in Western media reports indicating a growing influx of al-Qaeda aligned fighters into Syria.
For example, a recent story from GlobalPost reported “a significant presence” of al-Qaeda linked militants fighting within the Syrian city of Aleppo. Likewise, an August report in the Israeli daily Haaretz, citing US intelligence officials, noted that al-Qaeda “is building a network of well-organized cells” within Syria.
The growing frequency of such revelations in the Western press has caused those in Washington seeking to topple the Syrian government to shift from dismissing all such accounts as merely the propaganda of the Syrian government, to seeking to cynically seize upon al-Qaeda’s presence.
Such imperial opportunism has principally taken the form of using the specter of al-Qaeda as another pretext for an escalated level of US intervention into the Syrian crisis.
As the Associated Press reported this week, “The US is ramping up its presence at Syria’s Turkish border, sending more spies and diplomats to help advise the rebel forces in their mismatched fight against the better armed Syrian regime, and to watch for possible al-Qaida infiltration of rebel ranks.”
Of course, the al-Qaeda menace is also used by Syrian rebels seeking more Western arms. For without such assistance, rebels warn, they will be forced turn to al-Qaeda.
As the AP report continued, “Syrian rebels have complained they are outgunned by the Syrian military and must rely on contributions in money and small arms from Gulf countries, and increasingly from hardline Islamic militants, including Iraq’s branch of al-Qaida.”
Al-Qaeda fighters and their sympathizers, though, have already proven to be indispensable foot soldiers in the Western campaign against the Syrian state.
As Ed Husain of the influential Council on Foreign Relations has written, “The influx of jihadis brings discipline, religious fervor, battle experience from Iraq, funding from Sunni sympathizers in the Gulf, and most importantly, deadly results. In short, the FSA needs al-Qaeda now.”
A late July report in the Guardian newspaper of Britain titled, “Al-Qaida turns tide for rebels in battle for eastern Syria,” documented much the same. But, lest one forgets, Washington has long used jihadists to pursue its geopolitical aims.
Writing in the Washington Post this week, David Ignatius (a reliable conduit for the Washington power elite) acknowledged as much, evoking the historical parallels to the US involvement in Afghanistan in the 1980s. That is to say, when the US funneled arms to the Mujahedeen and ultimately helped to create what is known today as al-Qaeda.
“The parallels are spooky,” Ignatius wrote. “In Syria, as in Afghanistan, CIA officers are operating at the borders (in this case, mostly in Jordan and Turkey), helping Sunni insurgents improve their command and control and engaging in other activities. Weapons are coming from third parties (in Afghanistan, they came mostly from China and Egypt; in Syria, they’re mainly bought on the black market). And finally, a major financier for both insurgencies has been Saudi Arabia.”
But given how disastrous that campaign turned out for the US-birthing the 9/11 attacks and ultimately ensnaring the US military in an ongoing quagmire-Ignatius still supports providing Syrian rebels with assistance, ? la 1980s Afghanistan.
“The rebels fighting Assad deserve limited US support,” Ignatius argues, “just as the anti-Soviet mujahedeen did.”
However, after a decade of foreign policy based on a global “war on terror” ostensibly to combat al-Qaeda, the willingness of Washington to now tactically align with Islamic jihadists once more makes for less a case of spooky historical parallels than of outright mockery. Or as Marx would say, history repeats, the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce.
Speaking in an interview this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin lampooned the idiocy underlying the reformed US-House of Saud-foreign jihadi axis now directed against Syria.
“This policy is dangerous and very short-sighted,” Putin told RT television. “In that case, one should unlock Guantanamo, arm all of its inmates and bring them to Syria to do the fighting - it's practically the same kind of people. But what we should bear in mind is that one day these people will get back at their former captors. On the other hand, these same people should bear in mind that they will eventually end up in a new prison, very much like the one off the Cuban shore.”
“I would like to emphasize,” Putin added, “that this policy is very short-sighted and is fraught with dire consequences.”
Indeed, for the possibilities for blowback abound. But such, it increasingly appears, is the cost of the ever more desperate and violent campaign by Washington to retain its eroding regional hegemony via regime change in Damascus and beyond.
