Austrian Rape Victim Returns Home

An Austrian Muslim woman was at the centre of a rape case in Dubai since nearly two month has been returned home with the help of Austria’s foreign ministry after an online campaign on her behalf.

The 29-year-old woman told Dubai authorities that she was raped in the underground garage of a luxury hotel in early December and was then jailedfor several days.

Her passport was confiscated by Dubai police. She was facing a jail sentence of having sex with a Yemeni man outside of marriage and drinking alcohol, both of which are illegal in the United Arab Emirate capital.

“She is doing well, she is well and healthy and is glad to be in safety,” Linhart said.

The Avaaz advocacy group said 250,000 people had signed an online petition calling for the woman to be freed.

Dubai attracts large numbers of expatriates and tourists with a Western lifestyle, a few of whom fall foul of conservative laws on sex and alcohol.

In July, Dubai pardoned a Norwegian woman who had been sentenced to jail for illicit sex after reporting being raped by a colleague while on a visit to the emirate.

Am 1. Dezember des Vorjahres kam es zu dem Vorfall in der Tiefgarage eines Hotels in Dubai, wo die junge Österreicherin angab, vergewaltigt worden zu sein. Am 5. Dezember informierte das Opfer die österreichische Botschaft in den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten. Seither steht das Außenministerium, insbesondere die Botschaft vor Ort, in direktem Kontakt mit der Österreicherin und den Behörden vor Ort und hat dem Opfer den Vertrauensanwalt der Botschaft zur Seite gestellt. Im Jänner wurde im Auftrag des Außenministers ein Krisenteam unter der Leitung von Generalsekretär Michael Linhart entsandt. In Gesprächen ist erreicht worden, dass die Ausreise der Österreicherin ermöglicht wurde. Heute, am 30. Jänner erfolgte die Rückkehr nach Österreich.

Wir weisen auf den ausdrücklichen Wunsch der jungen Österreicherin hin, ihre Anonymität weiterhin zu wahren.

وصلت مساء يوم الخميس برفقة كل من مايكل لينهارت, سكرتير عام وزارة الخارجية النمساوية, والسيدةإليزابث تيشي-فيسلبيرجر, الفتاة المسلمة, 29 عاما, من أصل تونسي, إلى ديارها في العاصمة النمساوية فيينا سالمة, وذلك بعد حادث الإغتصاب البشع, والإعتقال غير المبرر, الذي تعرضت له في دولة الإمارات العربية الإسلامية “دبي”, التي كانت تقوم برحلة سياحية إليها في أوائل شهر ديسمبر الماضي

وكان في إستقبال الفتاة في مطار العاصمة فيينا وزير خارجية النمسا “كورتس سيباستيان”, وطاقم دبلوماسي مرافق له

ونعود حيثيات القضية إلى شكوى تقدمت فيها فتاة مسلمة تحمل الجنسية النمساوية إلى شرطة دبي, إدعت فيها إلى شخصا يمنيا مسلما باغتها في كراج أحد الفنادق الضخمة, وقام بإغتصابها مكرهة

وكان نزلاء أحد الفنادق الضخمة قد إستدعى الشرطة لدى مشاهدته رجلا في وضع مخل بالأخلاق 

وتعاملت شرطة دبي مع الشكوى بطريقة غير لائقة وفقا للقوانين المعمول بها في بلادها, والتي تحمل المسؤولية للضحية في كل الأحوال

وطلبت الشرطة من الفتاة الزواج من الشخص الذي هتك عرضها, وذلك كملاذ وحيد لها ينقذها من مواجهة تهمة ممارسة الجنس حارج إطار الزواج وتعاطي الكحول

من جهتة نفى الذئب البشري المسلم, وهو على علاقة وطيدة مع شرطة دبي التي يعمل والده شرطيا فيها, التهمة الموجهة إليه مدعيا أنه قام بممارسة الجنس مع الفتاة بالتراضي, وأنه دفع لها مبلغا من المال مقابل ذلك

من جهتها أصرت الفتاة الضحية على أقوالها ومباغتتها من قبل المجرم, ورفضت مطلب الشرطة في الزواج من السفاح, وطلبت الأتصال مع السفارة النمساوية في دبي

إلا أن الشرطة قامت في إعتقالها وإيداعها السجن بعد أن سحبت جواز سفرها النمساوي منها

وذكرت وزارة الخارجية النمساوية إن المرأة ابلغت السفارة السفارة بالواقعة بعد أربعة أيام منها

وقال “مايكل لينهارت” الإذاعة “أو.أر.أف” يوم الجمعة, إن “فيينا” كانت على اتصال مع المسؤولين في دبي, وأنها قامت بتقديم المساعدة القانونية للفتاة في القضية, حيث أوفدت لها طاقما مختصا

وقال “كنا ندركا أن اللحظة مواتية لعودة الفتاة. وفد أذن لي الوزير “كورتس سيباستيان” شخصيا بالسفر إلى دبي وإعادتها إلى فيينا, وهذا ما فعلناه، ووصلنا إلى هناك وهاد الوفد إلى فيينا مساء الخميس وكان الوزير “كورتس” في استقبالنا

ووصف “لينهارت” خالة الفتاة بالجيدة, وقال أنها في صحة جيدة وسعيدة لأنها وصلت إلى بر الأمان

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Authorities foiled plots by al-Qaida to take over key cities in southern Yemen and attack strategic ports and gas facilities, a government spokesman said Wednesday amid a heightened alert that has seen Western embassies evacuated and a new suspected U.S. drone strike that killed seven alleged militants from the terrorist group. Al-Qaida planned to target the cities of Mukalla and Bawzeer, then send militants disguised as Yemeni troops to attack two strategic oil ports in the impoverished country on the Arabian Peninsula, government spokesman Rageh Badi said.
Other al-Qaida militants would also try to sabotage pipelines to “create panic among Yemeni army and Yemeni security services,” Badi told The Associated Press, adding that authorities managed to foil the plots in the past 48 hours.
Details of the plot were first reported by the BBC.
His remarks came hours after Washington apparently stepped up its drone strikes in Yemen in the covert fight against militants from al-Qaida’s branch, which is considered the most active of the terrorist network.

Security officials and residents said early Wednesday that a suspected U.S. drone strike killed seven suspected al-Qaida militants in southern Yemen, the fifth such attack in the country in less than two weeks.
Yemen has emerged as the focus of a feared attack that has led the U.S. to shut down temporarily 19 diplomatic posts in the Middle East and Africa. American and British workers from embassies in Yemen’s capital of Sanaa also have been evacuated.

The drone strike killed the militants in Shabwa province, setting two vehicles on fire, security officials said. All the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter with the media.

Yemen says al-Qaeda targeted oil port

Aden - Yemen said on Wednesday it had foiled an al-Qaeda plot to storm a Western-run oil terminal and seize a port city, as a terror alert kept US Middle East missions closed.

The jihadist network's feared Yemeni affiliate planned to assault the Canadian-run Mina al-Dhaba oil terminal on the Arabian Sea coast and take staff hostage, including Western expatriates, government spokesperson Rajeh Badi told AFP.

A nearby export facility for oil derivatives was also targeted, Badi said.

Al-Qaeda also plotted to seize the nearby Hadramawt provincial capital Al-Mukalla, a port city of 100 000 people, and the Ghayl Bawazeer area to its north, where they briefly declared an Islamic emirate earlier this year.

"If they were to fail in seizing control of the facilities, the plan was to take foreign experts away as hostages," Badi said.

The attack was planned for Monday, which coincided with the 27th day of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan and was the second day of a mass closure of US missions across the Middle East and North Africa.

The plot was foiled around two days before its planned launch, Badi said.

Top ranks ‘hammered’

Both Washington and London pulled diplomatic personnel out of Sanaa on Tuesday citing intelligence reports of an imminent attack by the Yemen-based al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (Aqap).

The United States took the unusual step of closing some 25 diplomatic missions in the Muslim world on Sunday, and then extending the closure for a week at 19 of them, in response to what it said was a credible and imminent threat of a major al-Qaeda attack.

The Netherlands late on Wednesday became the latest Western power to close its embassy in Yemen, citing "information that several western countries are potential targets of an upcoming terrorist attack".

An intercepted conference call between al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri and top operatives was reportedly the trigger for the US embassy closures.

More than 20 al-Qaeda operatives from across the globe were on the call, including representatives of Nigeria's Boko Haram, the Pakistani Taliban and al-Qaeda in Iraq as well as Aqap, US media reported.

In the call, Zawahiri is said to have named Aqap chief Nasser al-Wuhayshi as the operational controller of the group's affiliates throughout the Muslim world.

A lack of clarity about the wider threat, however, remains. Late on Wednesday, a UN report said Zawahiri has struggled to unite al-Qaeda's various factions though the group continues to pose a threat.

"A fragmented and weakened al-Qaeda has not been extinguished," said the report, adding: "The reality of al-Qaeda's diminished capabilities and limited appeal does not mean that the threat of al-Qaeda attacks has passed."

This was later stressed by US President Barack Obama, who told some 3 000 marines that while al-Qaeda's top ranks had been "hammered", "the end of the war in Afghanistan doesn't mean the end of threats to our nation".

Drone war

While the closures span cities across the Arab world, the focus of concern has been Yemen, where Washington has been fighting a drone war against Aqap militants for several years.

US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said on Wednesday that Washington's embassy in Sanaa remained closed, "and we continue to evaluate the threats on a daily basis".

Tribal sources said a US drone killed seven suspected jihadists in Shabwa province, to the west of Hadramawt, on Wednesday, the second such strike in as many days.

The early-morning attack in the town of Nasab destroyed two vehicles, the sources said.

It was the fifth US drone strike in Yemen since 28 July. At least 24 suspected al-Qaeda militants have been killed.

Washington has launched scores of drone strikes in Yemen, where Aqap thrives in vast, lawless areas largely outside the government's control.

In recent days, Yemeni authorities beefed up security in Sanaa, where they feared the attack would be launched.

But they responded angrily on Tuesday to the withdrawal of Western diplomats, saying they acknowledged the safety fears but noting that the pullout "serves the interests of the extremists."

"It undermines the exceptional co-operation between Yemen and the international alliance against terrorism," the foreign ministry said.

Yemen-based Aqap has attempted several attacks on the United States, including a failed bid to bring down a passenger plane by a man wearing explosives in his underwear and another to send bombs concealed in printer cartridges.

The intent of the foiled plot on oil facilities appears to have been similar to a spectacular January attack by Islamist militants on a gas plant deep in the Algerian desert.

Thirty-eight hostages died, all but one of them foreigners, along with 29 militants, in the four-day siege at the In Amenas plant, which was ended by the Algerian army.

The President Who Wants to be Worshipped

To the religious minded, there is nothing objectionable about using verses from the Koran, the Bible or the Torah during inaugurations and similar activities, but it always appears at least questionable when persons start using these same quotations from religious texts to achieve personal goals and other interests which are far away of those meant in the holy verses and revelations.

Palestinian “President” Mahmoud Abbas, whose presidential term expired in 2009 and who is backed by the bayonets and guns of the USA, israel and many Western countries, recently opened his official presidential website by using a verse from the Koran above his personal picture, and calling for the people to worship him because he supposedly is unable to let us Palestinians feel hunger and because, in his exalted opinion, he supposedly provided us with security and safety.

The Quranic verse which “president” Abbas placed above his big picture on the main page of his website cites an order from God revealed to the Prophet Mohammad (peace upon him). In the Sura, the Quraysh Tribe is ordered to worship the God of the “owner of the house”. The house referred to is the Qaaba in Mecca, where the Holy Black Stone was is settled [ed. note: see the black stone is not worshipped]. The Quraish were a big tribe which itself was composed of several other tribes, namely the Knanah, the Khandwia, the Modria, and the Adnania, to which to the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (pbuh), belongs.

“فليعبدوا رب هذا البيت الذي أطعمهم من جوع وآمنهم من خوف”, the quoted verse, translates to: “Let them worship the Lord of this House, Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear”.

The verse was meant to encourage the Quraish people to worship the God of Muhammad and to pray to him before their commercial expeditions to Yemen and Levant, which took place twice each year, so that God would bless their undertakings, ensure them profits and protect them from the many dangers of the desert, like hunger, brigands or illness. It is also said that God preferred the people of Quraish over others because they were honoured to be able to count the prophet Mohammad as well the Khalifa and other important persons of the age among their own, and because of that he ordered them to worship him.

The case of Abbas is different. Of the hundreds of millions of Dollars and Euros which are sent to the Palestinians from taxpayer monies of European, American and westernized Arab countries as donations each year, to pay salaries or to help feed the many who have been forced by the occupation into indigency, a great part is stolen by the “president” himself and by his exalted cronies lifted into positions of power and graft by him or the secret services.

Abbas obviously (and lucratively) misunderstands the purpose of these donations. These monies are not a gift or handout exclusively for him and his many buddies. To repeat myself, these monies are provided to the Palestinian people in order to help them avoid poverty and hunger. By inappropriately citing this verse from the Quran, Abbas obviously wants the people to adore and worship him because he distributes the crumbs and leftovers from the money which is donated worldwide to the Palestinian cause.

Contrary to the deeds of the Prophet, who brought hope to many, Abbas has brought despair and defeat to the Palestinians through his treachery. The millions which continue to be pumped out by the countries of the world are interpreted by him as the price of his policy of defeat, conspiracy and surrender that dictator Abbas brought to the Palestinians in order to lengthen the zionist occupation, to bury the Palestinian resistance, and to protect of the security of Israel and the colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank instead of the Israeli occupation soldiers. Instead of protecting us and letting none of us suffer hunger or misery, Abbas is converting Palestine into a homeland to criminally insane colonists from the world over and a farm for him and the PA while Palestinians turned by his militarized thugs into slaves and destitute in our own country.

As a Palestinian journalist, strongly I denounce the Abbas exploitation of financial aid funds of the world in order to make himself worshipped as God, demanding from Palestinians to worship him and declare loyalty to him.

I consider the policy of “president” Abbas, in which he demands that the Palestinian people worship him as the demand of a benighted dictator which only happened during the historical era of the Egyptian Pharaoh who demanded from the nation to worship him according to what was stated in the heavenly books of the time.

The Pharaoh and his troops drowned in the sea because of his objectionable rule and deeds. The evil deeds of Abbas and his thugs are supported and brought to us by the USA, the EU and the dictators of certain Arab countries.

An appropriate verse of the Quran to be posted above Abbas picture is the Sura “Al-Masadd”, which talks about the deeds of evil people, and which I quote below.
