Austria to Host Secret Negotiations Between Palestinians and Israelis?

DSC_9751Austrian President Heinz Fischer deferred my question about the efforts of this country to host Palestinian – Israeli negotiations, posted to him during the joint press conference with President Abbas earlier today.
The question was: political news have surfaced about the Austrian government’s efforts to host Palestinian-Israeli negotiations on Austrian territory. Which would your comment about that be?
While the president smiled at the question, he answered that he “could neither confirm nor deny that”, and that he did not have an answer for the question.
During the last few years Austria has become an important destination for Palestinian political dignitaries, who often visit Vienna and hold meetings with the Austrian politicians and with israeli conversation partners without prior announcement of either the fact nor the purpose of their visits.
Today, Austrian President Fischer hosted his Palestinian counterpart on a working visit of two days. Noting was revealed about the program of the first day of President Abbas’ visit to Austria. Dr. Fischer said during the joint press conference that they spoke about “important issues” during their closed meetings, specifying that “we highlighted the latest development issues in Palestine, particularly with regards to supporting its role as an observer state at the United Nations”.

He added: “We spoke and exchanged views on these issues, about the present and the future of the Palestinian State and what is going on in the Arab world and the need to find a just solution in Palestine through the establishment of the Palestinian state in the borders of 1967”.
Fischer further added: “The government of Austria emphasizes it’s support by a peaceful revival of the peace process, where Austria is looking with more attention at the difficulties and problems faced by the Palestinian people, and we are ready to contribute to a political solution”.
Lastly, President Fischer stated: “We spoke about the difficult situation in Syria and we certainly support a peaceful political solution of that conflict”.
