All Saints Day

There is no Catholic Halloween

There is Catholic All Saints Day eve or All Hallows Eve in the English Vernacular but NO Halloween.

The Roman Calendar in the Roman Breviary from 1956 shows the last feast day in October is October 28, the Feast of Saints Simon and Jude. There is a feast that depends on which day is the last Sunday in October, a most important feast, if it falls on October 31 then it is there, the Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King. There is no feast specifically assigned to October 31, but first Vespers, which is always said on the evening of the day before, from November 1 All Saints, is therefore always on October 31 evening.

Behold, I, John, saw another
Angel ascending from the
rising of the sun, having the
sign of the living God. And
he cried with a loud voice to
the four Angels, to whom it
was given to hurt the earth
and the sea, saying: Hurt not
the earth, nor the sea, nor the
trees, till we sign the servants
of our God on their foreheads.

O Christ, be merciful to thy
servants, for whom Mary
their Patroness, implores the
Father’s mercy at the tribunal
of thy grace.
And ye, O heavenly hosts,
composed of nine choirs, keep
far from us all evils, past,
present and future.
Ye Apostles and Propets,
who stand before the unyeild-
ing Judge; implore pardon
for the guilty, who truly bewail
their faults.
O ye purple-robed Martyrs,
and ye holy Confessors,
clothed in the white robe of
triumph call us from exile to
the fatherland.
Chaste choirs of Virgins and
all ye holy Hermits, now
inhabitants of heaven, obtain
for us thrones among the
blessed.
Banish from the land of the
faithful the perfidious race,
so that the unique Shepard
may rule over all, united in one
fold.
Glory be to God the Father,
and to his only-begotten Son,
and to the Holy Paraclete,
forever and ever.
Amen.

V. Be glad in the Lord, and
Exult, ye just.
R. And glory
all ye upright of heart.
