EU-Arab Doctors Hold 29th Congress in Berlin

The Arab Doctors Union in Europe (ARABMED) headed by Dr. Faidi Omar Mahmoud concluded it’s 29th Scientific-medical Congress yesterday October 6 2013. It was held in Berlin in coordination with the 7th Joint International Medical Conference for European and Arabian Universities, and the DAAD (www.daad.de) Summer School Medical Program (RAGEL). The congress was held from October 4-6 2013 at the Berlin Otto-Bock Science Centre. The opening session was held at the Marrriott Hotel on Postdamer square, one of the three most famous squares of the German capital, Berlin.
DSC_8565The congress was sponsored by the Avicenna Clinic Berlin, Novartis, Fresenius Biotech, Europe Health, and the European Business Competence Center for Health, EWIV, and it was headed by Dr. Hesham Dahshan.
Dozens of doctors from all over around the EU, Western and Arab countries attended the congress, particularly from Germany, Austria, Ireland, France, Saudi Arabia, UK, USA, Italy, UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq and also other countries. Several diplomats participated in the opening ceremony of the congress, among them were Prof. Dr. Med. Ossama bin Abdul Majed Shobokshi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Fr. Afaf Mohamadani from the Sudanese Embassy; Ahmed El Hamli, deputy ambassador of the UAE; Ms. Loubna El Baioui from the Embassy of Marokko; Abdulrahman Bahabib, the Yemeni Charge d’Affairs; H.E. Dr. Hussain Al-Khateeb, Ambassador of Irak and Abdelhadi Abu Sharekh, the Palestinian Consul.
The major themes addressed during the congress were rehabilitation medicine, reconstructive surgery, post-traumatic stress syndrome, heart diseases, gastroenterology, metabolic diseases, ophthalmology, and determinants and impact of migrant Arab health professionals in reinforcing the health sectors in the Arab States.
Dr. Dahshan, the president of the congress, asked the participants to stand up for a minute of silence at the the opening session of the congress, saying: “I would be very grateful if all of us stood up for a minute of silence to mourn for the dead and all the victims of the conflicts in the Middle East and the neighbouring countries.”
On Behalf of ARABMED, Dr. Dahshan welcomed the diplomatic representatives and expressed his sincere thanks to His Excellency Prof. Dr. Med, Ossama bin Abdul Majed Shobokshi, Ambassador of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia as well as all Ambassadors of Arab Countries, particularly H.E. Dr. Hussain Al-Khateeb, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, who was chosen as the representative of the Arab Ambassadors to the Federal Republic of Germany. He thanked the Otto Bock Science Center and its team for their great help and support for the congress, with particular mention of Ms. Carli and Ms. Stowasser.

About ARABMED, Dr. Dahshan said: “Our Congress is the largest gathering of European doctors of Arabic origin, and it is aimed at general practitioners, nursing  professionals, students and other health professionals interested in the exchange of experiences between Europe and the Arabic world in the different fields of medicine, preventive medicine and the promotion of health. The congress ARABMED is a forum for communication between health professionals of Arabic origin who work in different parts of Europe and the United States and whose experiences can be of great applicability in many emerging and developing cases”.
Dr. Dahshan continued: “Our presence here will enrich the objectives of the meeting and will enhance your professional and personal background to understand and share these days with colleagues from other countries and cultures, and once again Germany will be meeting point of culture and science, in a different and rewarding conference for all those who believe in health as a way of uniting people and promoting equality among citizens”.
DSC_8632Dr. Faidi also welcomed the congress guests and briefly said that the aim of ARABMED is to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and communication across specialists and among concerned professionals or scholars who have scientific interests in medical research and allied fields. He stated that the conference will serve as an occasion to get to know fellow Arab doctors, both those living in Arab countries as well as those who live and practice in Europe and the USA. “The conference will also be an opportunity to get acquainted with the latest scientific and medical developments”, so Dr. Faidi. He finally showed pictures from the activities of ARABMED during the previous years.
On behalf of the Arab Ambassadors to Germany, Ambassador Al-Khateeb congratulated the ARABMED for their congress, saying that he was impressed by looking at ARABMED website and reading about what they achieved during the previous years and conferences. He thanked the organizing committee and all those involved in realizing this year’s 29th conference and wished the attendants fruitful and productive meetings and discussions.
