The Palestinian Return Centre is extremely concerned over Israel’s escalation of violence against the Palestinian People in Gaza. Israel’s shameful bombing yesterday, which killed 15, mainly civilians, including 3 children, is the continuation of ongoing violence against the Palestinians in Gaza.

Gaza continues to be under siege, and sporadic violence against the people of Gaza has been unrelenting since Operation Cast Lead, killing hundreds of Palestinians over the past Four years. Unlike the rockets, which Israel uses as a ruse whenever it needs to ratchet up its bombardment of Gaza, Israeli assaults have been killing Palestinians on a daily basis.

On 08 November 2012, Only Six days prior to its most recent assault, the Israeli occupying forces killed a Palestinian child during an incursion into ‘Abassan village, east of Kahn Yunis, Gaza. On 10 November 2012, IOF killed 4 Palestinian civilians, including two children, when they fired a number of artillery shells at al-Shoja’iya neighborhood in the east of Gaza City.  Additionally, 38 Palestinians, including 9 children, were wounded.

The Israeli military has even imposed a policy to keep Palestinians in Gaza just above the threshold off mass starvation by counting their calories. The people of Gaza are the victims of a fateful and cynical shift within the Israeli political climate that has made the repression and killing of Palestinians a political asset.

Disgracefully our media and politicians have failed to make any comments about the daily death and destruction faced by nearly 2 million Palestinians, corralled into a slither of land, from which they are unable to escape.

Our media has totally failed to ask the right question and instead allowed itself to be a platform from which Israel has been able to justify its criminal actions.

Our politicians have been quick to place blame on the people who are fighting a brutal occupation, while keeping silent over the siege, and daily violence committed by Israel. The statement by our Foreign Secretary will be seen as anything but a green light by Israel to escalate its assault on Gaza. We call on everybody to join in our support for an end to the violence and aggression carried out by Israel. The global civic community needs to join again in solidarity before another Cast Lead assault on Gaza.

Write to your MPs to condemn Israel for any escalation in violence and not make Israel’s case for bombing the people of Gaza. Join thousands of others who will be demonstrating today at the Israeli Embassy from 5:30 to 7:30 PM
