Strong support of the Islamic communities was and is a political position that Mayor Michael Häupl and the Socialist Partyrepresented (SPÖ) Vienna.

In his address, Dr. Häupl meant "Today we celebrate Arafat because the three monotheistic religions have the same origin and therefore proclaim the same message, namely the establishment of a culture of peace among all people."
The mayor continued, "I can assure you that this is primarily a culture of peace with all the prophets." Dr. Häupl has further pointed out that the freedom of religion and freedom to exercise their faith for all religions is guaranteed, and that the Muslims have become an integral part of the Austrian Society.
Ing Omar Al-Rawi has been like in recent years organized the event for the mayor, taking care of administrative details and received the guests at the entrance. He thanked the guests for coming to the Lord's Supper, and in Häupl for the generous invitation. He has in his brief speech repeated his view that Austria in the European comparison "a haven for Muslims" was mainly because here thanks to a strong policy of integration hardly come to radicalization.
The head of the Islamic Community of Austria , Dr. Fuat Sanac is, unfortunately arrived just before dessert and therefore could not hold any more speech. In its place, a deputy brought a brief thank-you expression.
