AICafe 10.9.11: Palestinian September Initiative – Roundtable Discussion
Thursday, 08 September 2011 15:29 Alternative Information Center (AIC)Please join us at the AICafe on Saturday 10 September at 8.00 p.m. for a roundtable discussion on The Palestinian September Initiative.
September has arrived and there are only two weeks left until Palestinian representatives will go to the UN to seek recognition for the state of Palestine. There is increasing confusion about the legal framework of this move, as well as the political implications this step might have on the ground.
What are the legal options faced by the PLO? Will a potential recognition of Palestine at the UN undermine the role of the PLO as a representative of all the Palestinian people and how could such a recognition impact the rights of refugees and Palestinians inside Israel?
Roundtable speakers:
Valentina Azarov of Al Haq
Amjad Mitri of Badil
AIC Director Nassar Ibrahim
Our guest speakers will focus particularly on the legal context of the UN, the role of refugees within this initiative and the different possible scenarios of what might happen after September.
The round table is meant to be an occasion of fruitful exchange of opinions and evaluation to better understand the nature and aim of such an initiative.
We welcome you to join us and be an active part of the discussion!
